The Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV: Luxury Meets Invincibility

In November 2019, indiGO Auto Group invited their clients to a one-of-a-kind desert adventure called “Kick Up The Dust,” bringing together their luxury SUV’s for an extraordinary off-road experience. The lineup included models from prestige brands like Audi, Bentley, BMW, Land Rover, Porsche —and one brand you might not expect: Rolls-Royce. When the legendary automaker set out to build their first-ever all-wheel drive super-luxury SUV they were faced with a nearly impossible task. How do you design a powerful, full-sized vehicle that could conquer the Outback without compromising the supremely comfortable ride quality Rolls-Royce is famous for? The answer: you do it by creating the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The name is said to be inspired by the Cullinan Diamond, the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever discovered, which is fitting since the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is one gem that’s built to handle the rough. And the motoring world has taken notice. As the car enthusiasts over at BBC’s Top Gear put it, “Aspen, Jackson Hole and Gstaad will soon be heaving with Cullinans that can climb mountains while keeping the Dom Perignon chilled.” They go on to say: “The Cullinan takes Rolls’ fabled ride and refinement qualities into a new domain, doing to off-road rubble and ruts what the Phantom does to regular road imperfections. Even sitting in the back, the signature serenity is achieved.” Thanks to a twin-turbocharged 6.7-liter V12 engine that produces a staggering 563-hp, this 3-ton luxury leviathan can propel you from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. And to keep its impeccable manners on rough terrain there are double wishbones up front and a five-link rear axle with self-leveling air suspension. Electronically controlled dampers help further stabilize the ride along with a stereo camera system that “reads” the road ahead. And in a first for Rolls-Royce, the Cullinan has four-wheel steering with the power going to all four wheels in a 50/50 split. Unlike mere mortal vehicles, you don’t select a Cullinan off the showroom floor—you help create it from the ground up. The word Rolls-Royce uses is “bespoke.” That means each vehicle is tailor-made to your exacting specifications, a highly personalized, one-of-a-kind expression of your individual tastes and desires. Car and Driver sums it up perfectly: “Even though building an SUV is a clear break from tradition for the storied British brand, it's still an uncompromised Rolls-Royce in every way.” To find your own Rolls-Royce Cullinan, contact indiGO Auto Group, or to experience the full line of Rolls-Royce motorcars, visit Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Rancho Mirage.
